Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) Certification
The Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) program is a powerful federal initiative designed to stimulate economic growth in underserved communities. Certified HUBZone businesses gain a competitive edge in federal contracting, including access to set-asides, sole-source awards, and a 10% price evaluation preference in full and open competitions.
At Landmark Federal Solutions, we provide expert guidance to help you qualify, apply, and stay compliant—so your business is ready to win in the federal marketplace.
What Is HUBZone Certification?
Unlike certifications tied to ownership demographics (like WOSB or SDVOSB), HUBZone eligibility is based on your business’s location and the residency of your employees. If your headquarters is in a designated HUBZone and 35%+ of your team resides in one, you could qualify for these valuable federal contracting benefits.
Benefits of HUBZone Certification
- Exclusive Access to Set-Asides & Sole-Source Contracts
- 10% Price Evaluation Preference in full and open bids
- Stronger Visibility with contracting officers and agencies
- Better positioning for prime and subcontracting opportunities
- Competitive edge in sectors where HUBZone goals are unmet
Basic Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the SBA’s HUBZone program, your business must:
- Be a small business under SBA size standards
- Be at least 51% owned and controlled by U.S. citizens, a CDC, agricultural cooperative, or Indian tribe
- Have your principal office in a HUBZone-designated area
- Ensure that at least 35% of employees live in a HUBZone
Note: To maintain HUBZone certification, businesses must continue to meet the 35% employee residency and principal office location requirements. Annual recertification and periodic program updates are required to stay compliant and eligible for HUBZone opportunities.
